Got a used Mini-x, but got a problem?

I picked up a used mini-x, it is a 5 cell car. It did not come with a controller so I'm trying to use my Mini-z Perfex kt-2, but I seem to be getting alot of interference, it sputters and the steering goes crazy when it's about a foot away. I read not to pull the throttle all the back but I can't get it to run right at mid throttle.

Any advice would highly be appreciated.

first check your X-tals, make sure they are the same, maybe try and switch them for some other ones. also check your wires, and make sure they are all plugged it properly
