Racing ET's / how fast is fast?

I am new here, so I apologize if this has been covered...

I keep seeing statements about "Brand X motor being crazy, insane, other adjective..." fast.
Can we have a thread listing some times on standard 12' drag strip?

I get really accurate results by:

1) Measuring out 12' on the floor, and marking a start line with tape.
2) Add a long strip of tape perpendicular to the track at the finish line with a small diameter straw underneath.
3) Get a stopwatch and hold it under the controller with one finger on the start stop button, one finger on the controller button.
4) Hit the watch start and the go button at the same time and keep the car going straight!
5) Stop the watch when you see the car jump from hitting the finish line tape/straw.
6)Average three runs and post the info here, like:

Thunder Clone
8:25 gears
Zip Zap purple motor (34,000)
2.48 seconds/avg of three runs on a double charge
(This is my quickest car right now, so let's hear fast or slow it is...)

This way we would know how much we stand to gain with whatever motor, mosfet mods etc.

I am also interested to hear what some of these hopped up Zip Zaps are doing. I have stayed away form them because they were slower than the Microsizers, but perhaps with the new motors and mods this is no longer an issue. I do like the longer wheelbase and better looks of the Zips. If they can get into the 2.5-second range on a 12' run I would give them a shot.

Sorry for the long post. Let's see some other times and combos.
~Jim

...i was not sure if you said 12 in. or 12 ft . ? ...but a dual cell with stock clone motor and red gears a 12 in. run went 1.24- seconds......And a 12 ft. run took 5.63- seconds.....i'll do some more cars 2 nite !......this was done on my kitchen carpet its not to thick but i might even try at work 2 and see how it does on a smooth surface....

12 feet

Yea, 12 feet. Easier to time than 12 inches!
What is the best time anyone knows of for a single cell car on a 12 foot run?
