18v Xmod

Hey everyone, just got my Xmod about a month ago and of couse loved it. I've been reading some posts here lately and came up with sumthing that I'm not really so sure it would work so..if you guys would help me out. I was reading your posts about adding an extra battery to gain more power and how to do it, and it seems to work fine, I'm thinking of doing it but I just need to buy me the AAA battery holder. But then I thought that maybe I could use a 9v battery on it. I tried putting it on top of the cervo but then the body wont fit..so..I later thought that maybe I can get two 9v batteries and replace them for the 2 AAA battery holders on each side, I'm not so suer if that might work or not. I would like to try it out but I don't wanna mess up any circuits, or over load something. If you guys have any comments or ideas, just let me know and I'll appreciated it

I think you should try that way I wont blow my board lol JK What we need hear are some of these really smart Kids that use this forum 2 put there 2 cents in on this . I was wondering if you maybe ran the battery's in parrell instead of a series or something like that to keep the volts at 9V instead of 18V

Running the batteries in parallel would keep the voltage at 9V, and double the runtime. The only caveat is that you need to be careful that both batteries have the same voltage or charge level, because you don't want one battery charging the other. The ever-so-vital smoke can escape when this happens, and then you've got problems...

BTW, what is the mAH rating on the 9V batteries?

if your main concern was the body not fitting.. there is no way on this planet that you can increase the width of the body that much without #1 breaking it trying to get it on , or #2 cutting the doors off of your supra

My 9V is sketchy, it works but seems a bit unstable. I'd like to see a dual 9V car, but I would think it would be too risky. I am in support of experimentation though,

Is it possible to run the 2-9V's in series and bump it up to 18Vs w/out damage?? I would assume that you could fry the circut, but what about upgrading the circut parts- such as 25Vcapacitors and such??

It is possible. What we don't know is what, if any, voltage regulation protects the radio circuit. A simple zener diode would do the trick if needed. It's commonly used on the larger scale cars without ESCs. Any electrolytic caps around the drive circuit would need to be bumped up, but that may be only one or two parts total.

Theres a person who tried to run 12v on there x-mod and he says after a couple minutes it just died. sounds like 9v is the max and may even be pushing the internals a bit

Well, buddy, it sounds like you get to follow in my footsteps now. I'm making a custom "XMod" car myself, it's the Porsche GT-1 on Mods and Projects, but it doesn't fit any of the XMod chassis, so I get the fun job of making a chassis for the car. I know it's going to be difficult, but you should be able to fit dual 9's and everything else if you do it write, depending on how the body is configured. Another option is to try to find a high-top car (someone on here is working on a Mini-Cooper for instance) that will be able to hold a 9V in the top of the car (though that would cause the car to roll easier). It's all up to you and how much work you want to do to have a custom.

13.8v...::sigh::

Hmmmmmmm...well...yesterday night...I was doing some wireing and well..I connected the 4 AAA batteries (Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH 1.2v 750mAh) and the Radioshack 120mAh 9v battery and I didn't really ran the car with it since I just wanted to see how much power it would give...so I had the car sit in a cup and the tires in mid air, and yeah, 13.8v made a BBBIIIIGGGG difference, but I didn't do it for long, so...I dunno if it might fry if I keep at it, but um...if it doesn't..I'm just thinking of cutting the top off, but not like the one this one guy posted...it was a red RSX with spinners, and with the top off...I'll try to cut mines off differently, and well..if it all goes well..I'll take out the 4 AAA batteries out and just put 2 9V sitting sorda out the top, and that will give me better room for some good lighting on the sides, not to mention almost the same weight but alot more power.

By the way, if anyone would send me the link to the pic that guy had with the top off, I gotta see that pic again, thnx
