no fry
This question is getting old, so here is the universal answer.
Motor XYZ will NOT fry your Xmod. It cannot fry your Xmod. The only thing that CAN fry your Xmod is either too much voltage going through the electronics or the electronics overheating (This is true with all electonics from RC cars to computers). So if you want to be REALLY safe, stick a heat sink on the motor and all will be good.

Actually, a low enough motor resistance can fry most any esc. If the motor draws too much current, and the batteries produce enough current, the FETs on your PCB will pop.
But yes, Tamiya and Kyosho motors work fine.

Nathan...Nathan....Nathan
Think small my man, we're not talking the big-cars here i.e.: You can't stick a 9T motor in a stampede/rustler with an XL1 ESC.... These Mini-Z/X-mod motors don't crank out the heat/rpm of what one of those do...Heck I know the Blazing fast motor I'm getting from Megatech is only a 21T motor and the stock Stinger on a pede or rustler is 20T.....In fact I'll issue a challenge right now to Mr. NoMotorLimit and his nemesis to publish right now, right here how many turns their hand-wound motors are. I'd actually like to know how many turns a stage one and stage 2 are. I'm guessing 27 for a stage one and 25 for a stage 2.

26 turns I dont think so
I doubt a stage 1 or 2 will be a 26 turn motor. An x speed motor is alot faster than a stage 2 and is a 35 turn motor.

i was looking at the tamiya mini 4wd motors at my hobbytown and i took a look at the hyperdash or the plasma dash (can't remember which one) and even though it was in japanese, i think i read that it drew 4100 mA. that's a lot of juice.

that'd be the plasma dash.
It spins up slow on the xmods, so you got pretty bad low end... but if you have enough room to let it wind out- WOW

BadSupra1239 9T with Xl-1
NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You WILL fry your ESC if you do that, notice I said that you CAN'T STICK A 9T MOTOR IN A STAMPEDE/RUSTLER WITH AN XL-1 ESC....
I have a Dratraxx 8T ESC therefore I can use the 9T motor.
The Stock XL1-ESC will fry at anything lower than 17T.
If you have a 4WD truck, ie Clodbuster, E-Maxx, etc.....then you should get a Novak Super Rooster ESC, it has no motor limit and can run 2 motors at the same time, but it is EXPENSIVE. The Duratraxx ESC is only $65.

TyperZero
Are you sure about the number of mA on the motor? Because the 21T Megatech only draws 800-1900mA. 4100mA would be 4.1 amps and yeah you'd be right about that being a LOT of power.

it was on teh back of the box. everythign was in japanese but i was reading teh actual numbers like torque was rated at 20 g/cm, rpm was 26500 or so, and then i read "4100 mA" on it. the torque-tuned motor was rated around 1 amp i think, can't remember teh exact number, and only 13000 rpm. too bad they didn't sell a pinion puller or press, otherwise i woudl've bought them to try out.

I was talking theoretically. If you just shorted out your motor connector and floored it (the equivelent of a REALLY low turn motor ) your FETs would pop. Motors frying things have nothing to do with the heat of the motor itself, it is the amount of current they draw.
I believe you are correct in saying "Motor XYZ will NOT fry your XMOD."
I don't think NML would be willing to reveal things like that. When I finally get that pinion puller, I'm just gonna make my own stageX motor.
