the "brake" funciton in the xmod isn't really brakes, it simply wont send any juice to the motor at all so what you think is "braking" is really the friction of all the drivetrain pieces slowing it down (even with the bearings) and engine braking. as the car coasts, it still turns teh gears to the motor and the motor has enough internal friction to slow the car down quite a bit

the drifting with tires i dont consider real drifting. drifting is supposed to be a racing move to improve your speed and 6ft drifts arent going to do that. also you lose handling in the rest of the track

dude, thats so not true, when is he going to go to a race track to race a cheap little xmod, drifting is purly for fun. and nothing else, if your drifting at a race there is more a chance of oyu going out of control than there is you will gain any time at all on your oponents, so drifting with xmods is just fun IMO

tape? if you cant get it to drift withouht tape thats a problem, and it means you suck at drifting and shoulndt be donig it anyways, but then again, you have to learn somehow, just like in a real car. i started drifting in a corrolla, and now im drving a sr20det powerd s13... it always starts somwhere

drifting in a real car is entirely different from drifting a tiny rc car. at that small size the turns happen a lot faster than in a real car. if you're using 2wd in a 1/28 scale car you don't really have the reflexes to adjust your throttle and steering to compensate.
the best way to have nice FUN drifts with an xmod is to have awd and a surface that allows the tires to break loose easily. whether you get that by taping the wheels or running on slick surface is up to you.

I drift when I get my tires all dusty-All I have to do is get some speed up and then quickly tap the brakes, tap the steering wheel in the direction I want to drift in, and then hit the throttle before the rest of the car comes back around and I always do perfect drifts.

oh, you mean the zero throttle function designed to keep your gears from getting ripped cuz of a sudden change in direction? sorry, jus trying to educate ppl.
try this: hit the brakes on your car and hold the brakes then listen for any sounds going to the motor. there will be none. then put the car, while still holding the brakes, on a slight incline, it will start moving downhill cuz the "brakes" aren't doing anythign to hold teh car in place.
the only time i seen brakes in an RC car is in teh larger cars, usually the gas/nitro powered ones

these cars do have breaks. as do most hobby grade ESCs. it isn't a mechanical brake, it's an electromagnetic drag on the motor but it slows the car and can lock the wheels up on loose surfaces.

Yeah, mine has brakes. I can lock the rear wheels pretty easily in mine.

S2000...im not trying to drift on a track...im just drifting around corners of my house..and how is using tape cheating??drifting slows you down in a race not help you take the turns faster..._revhards13...drifting is for fun...its quite hard to drift with brand new tires on a clean surface with 4-wheel drive and a stock motor...i can do little drifts but my big drifts come when i have tape on my tires...

really?? sumthing must be wrong wtih mine.... does it hold the wheel so long as you hold the brake?
*Edit*
ok, did a lil testing and yeah, i do notice a bit of a braking effect but it's quite weak on mine. how is it supposed to work? does it put a tiny bit of reverse throttle, just enough to stop by not enough to go in reverse?

It actually creates a strong magnetic field that stops the armature.
