ok quad cells are fine any higher not fine. quad cells have been known to char somthiing on the pcb but thats rare and 2.6 probly wont burn out but putting higher voltage through it will shorten its like

The chips were designed to go no higher than 5 volts!

I think that you should make a switch on the car for charging, since 4 cells would be 4.8v, and 3 alkaline batteries in the charger/remote - 4.5v, wouldn't be enough, you would need 4, which would make it 6v, which inturn might fry the PCB when charging. So I think you should make a switch which disconnects the PCB from the battery when charging just to be safe....

Aren't 4 cells just a wee bit heavy? Why don't you try a CR2 camera battery, they give 3V, and will give your car at least an hour of runtime.
