27 mhz v. 49 mhz

From all the posts that I've read the 27mhz appears to be a redhead stepchild to the 49mhz as far as reception especially on the original zzs. That being said, my experience with my new champagne civic 27 has been very mixed compared to my X2 49. Has anyone tried an X2 27 v. the civic 27? If you have is it better?
