27 mhz v. 49 mhz

From all the posts that I've read the 27mhz appears to be a redhead stepchild to the 49mhz as far as reception especially on the original zzs. That being said, my experience with my new champagne civic 27 has been very mixed compared to my X2 49. Has anyone tried an X2 27 v. the civic 27? If you have is it better?

If you buy a Kyosho Palm Runner (I think I got mine for $12 each from Toyeast) and just use their pistol controller, you'll get all the range you need. The 27Mhz and the 49 Mhz both work on the Zips. The 49 also controls my H1. Stock zips will always get cruddy range cos' of the two AAA's the controller uses. If I get 15 feet out of a stock Zip, i'm lucky. That includes the 49 Mhz. If you want better range in a stock Zip, you'll have to do it yourself. Palm runner is a great car for the price, so you'll kill two birds with one stone buying one. Just my opinion.

Answering your direct question, no. If there is a difference, it's very minimal.

Thanks for the info Stridex. I'll check out those runners. I assume that the pistol controller is a little more amped on the batt front.

It uses a 9volt. You'll also fall in love with the controller. Much more comfortable.

I have really been looking for a way to modify my stock zip transmitter to boost range....especially on my Xmen 27Mhz. It's a hot little car, but i get out of range way to quickly. has anyone tried any mods to the electronics in these controlers? besides doing a longer antenna.....i do have a longer one on my zip, and got some improvement. would rather not have to change to a longer antenna on the controller because i have yet to find one that is the same diameter as the original, and i don't want to dremel it if i can help it.

by the way MadScott....i have done a side by side with my xmen 27 and the new champagne civic 27 and they are virtually identicle as far as range goes.....

Does it matter? does the frequency affect the speed?

Havok 04-04-2003 08:02 PM

Hey guys,
are 27mhz and 49mhz the only frequencies the palm runner has available?
And either way, does anyone know if they can be modified to any other frequency? or any other controller for that matter?
such as the numerous frequencies used by bit-char's?
thanks for help

I made a mistake. I've bought and seen so many things I sometimes get them confused. The controllers that work on zips and H1's are the Tokoros.

Here's a pic of a sweet skyline. While it's worth the $12.60 just for the car, the real benefit is the EXTRA range you get with the Zips. I've walked into my hallway and still had control of my Zip thru the wall.

Wow, I really like the Palm Runners. The car body's seem so much more in scale and realistic than the Zaps and others.
I also dig the wire antenae. Don't care for a bulky wire all curvy coming out of my car. Anyone care to tell me if the straign bare wire gets better reception than a curvy insulated one?
