with medium tires and orange gears with the 2.2 motor my Mach does fierce donuts on the hardwood. i can't get any kind of speed up without doing donuts when cornering! i think i'll switch to the teal gears and see about buying a new set of tires.

ok guys, i'm a total newbie.....i really don't know what drifting is....is it when the car kind of "skids sideways" (almost a donut, 1/2 a donut) around a turn?
if it is my set-up is
Nissan 350Z
front rear with the softest struts

Welcome to the forums first off and to answer your question, everyone seems to have there own prefered set-ups... it all seems to depend on individual situations and driving prefs. So the best answer "I think" would be to experiment yourself with different tuning methods to find a set-up that works for you best.

For my Drift/DRAG car i use
2.6
12:1 gearing
Bit Racer Hard ribbed tires in rear
Bit racer Blue Plastic wheels up front
Hard ZZ stab bar
another way i like to have some fun drifting is using no tires at all, you get mainly donuts but when you get good at it you can do some pretty controlled drifts which are awsome.

Drift setup
New to this place, had to post on drifting section first. I've tried a few config's but the one below always seems to work for me. i started off only pulling partial drifts, but with a couple of weeks practice im drifting how an 86 deserves to be drifted.
Im currently working on an autocross track and should have pictures of that soon as well as a drift video of me and a few buddies.

i just put soft springs suspenion on my AE86 and its slides realllly nicely, i drift on my track with a 2.2 now that i have spring suspenion, if you put a small amount of varnish on the track your car will slide
