Low cost, light weight, cheap....
well...its been a while sence the last time i posted in the xmod section, but im back now....
here is an idea i had.....
btw, this is my 3rd trial
i made a body for my skyline chassie that wouldnt weigh down the speed....so i made this out of note cards.....im working on improving it and once i get a good design ill post the patterns (or tutorial) for everyone who wants one...
.....right now i have a scoop on it to improve airflow to the motor......the top speed has never been acheved...i have always run out of hallway...lol....
well....here it is:

words cannot desribe that uber-cool machine.
How does the front bumper hold up against full speed crashes?
Since I rarely use my Skyline body at all, I've fabricated a front bumper for my chassis that seems to be working very well.
Currently I'm figuring out how to mount a rear bumper, then only will I even consider making a cardboard/foam body.

If you were really that concerned with weight, you could get some chicken wire or whatever they call it (or maybe something smaller, I don't know how easily that bends into tight shapes), make a frame out of it, then lay paper mache over it for the body. Once it dries, you could take the wire out and the body would only weight an ounce or two if you've done it correctly.

Looks almost, paper-le mansish
Nice, hows it hold up during extended high speeds? Does it flap to pieces or anything?

nope, it holds up fine...the note cards are just the right thickness to be strong and light......

oh, btw...papier mache is heavier than note cards.....the idea crossed my mind but i didnt want to go through a long process just to get it the right size......plus you can be running a paper bodie in under 10 minutes....

Oh, I didn't realize you were counting on the cards as a permanent fix.

...to Boris & Joey
The note card idea seems to be the lightest and kinda even looks cool !!!... But just think about the things that could be bent and built out of the chicken wire idea !!! Crazy things ah comming for new bodys...lol
Mad props to both of you for using your beans that God gave ya to come up with these ideas! It's wounderful to see people comming up with good ideas instead of just bashing everything and everyone. May God bless you both and keep comming up with more great ideas !...KnotHole...
PS...I would like to see the diagram on how you built the body out of note cards please...
