i was drifting my black skyline today, i pulled a perfect 180 drift, it was nice.
hears my set up
shen chassie
shen pink motor (2.6-3.0 not sure)
soft blue up front
hard grey in back
orange gears
if you are having problums try this set up you should get your car to spin alot thats not exactly what you want but you want to harness that spin
first what you should do and what looks the best is lay down on the floor and drive the car toward you (i was using linoleum floor and it works good) now i hold the gas the whole time. start to turn the way you want to go and when you notice your car start to lose grip counter stear (turn the other way) now its all your release and timing has to be perfect. you need to let go before you start spinning the other way and after you stop the first spin.
if you can pull this manuver off you will be like damn that was pretty nice try it its fun

Here's my setup:
MS PRO
Spring suspension (springs from rcmod)
Hard front tires
Soft rear tires
2.6 motor
9.86:1 gears
Toyota Sprinter Trueno SS version body
My method:
I start out by driving on hard wood floor unboosted. Then I press the boost button and the turn button at the same time, then immediatly let them go. This gets my AE86 into a nice drift that usually never needs counter-steer. I just press forward in unbosted mode until my Truneo gets out of the drift by itself.
With this setup, I can also do a sick reverse 180. I start in boosted reverse going straight, then I press either turn button (keeping boost on), and the Sprinter spins a nice 180, and I accelerate away in boosted mode.

I have finally drifted (fairly controlled on a track), and on normal unpainted plywood, I am still testing to find the right setup but I CAN tell you that :
Suspension: stock
Motor: Perfection 3.5
Tires: medium
Any hoo, here is a vid of me drifting in a part of my track.
Plzz ppl post vids and also tell me if this is how your drifts look. Mine looks great to me

that was a tight drift, i would try to post pics but i dont have a camera
it looks similar to when a drift but when i was drifting my shen motor it was a smaller radius, it was also on lynolium with hard tires in the back so thats probably why
also i bet that motor is just a bit to fast for that track

I have done crazydave's antiboost mod so I can run a 4.2 on this track. I don't use my drift tires when racing tho. I cant drift through every corner and it spins out alot.

hmmm, i think the concept of drifting is a little different than the things you guys are talking about... but with my stock special ed. all i did was pull donuts on my floor. but with a gen2 pcb zz i could drift, just enough to make the turn much faster than letting of the throttle but with the new se's, it may not be as needed since you have more control over the speed, and wouldnt need to drift to slow down for tighter turns.

Easy-to-get-in-and-out-of-drift setup:
9.86:1
Bit Racer tires at the rear axle. Hard usually works best.
Hard suspension bar, to reduce turn radius.
2.2s are fast enough to drift.
With this I can drift on almost any smooth surface and regain control easily.
100%-drift-and-lose-control setup:
Drift axle!! :P
Hard suspension bar
1.0!!
This setup ownz!

YES you can!
You don't need lube on the tires to drift! Most of the time it's your tires and motor that are responsible for drifting. As long as your car cannot maintain its grip on the surface you can drift easily.
