well first off the craplement....er....element (hehe sorry...I do NOT like the look of the element at all. It looks ugly to me) has a 2.4L engine, I believe. The power potential is more but...ugh...I would never buy one myself. Second, the stock power of the xB is 108 HP w/ 105 ft/lbs of torque out of a 1.5L engien (1NZ-FE again same engine that's in the ECHO) but also consider that the xB is going to have a MUCH larger after market selection than the element has. The element right now doesn't have close to the options that the xB will have available to it on launch. Plus the xB has already got some big names already behind it, like GReddy (in case you couldn't see my avatar ), Motegi, and Blitz (heck yeah!). So my honest opinion, I'd stick with the xB based on after market prevelence, looks, space efficiency, and price. Oh and yes it's cheaper than the Element is...the cheapest element, without options, is 16100 and the most expensive, again before options, is 20850. Even w/ no options the xB at it's lower price has more options already installed (AC, keyless entry, power everything, etc.) at no extra cost. Plus it looks a whole lot better IMO. Anywho, so simply put, the element has more power and potential BUT has nowhere near the amount of "hop up" parts that the xB will have available to it. LOL ok...me shut up now...me go back to hovel...

uh oh.. shadowmage is busting out the knowledge train.... @_@ heh cool... such a tiny engine! but then again, so much aftermarket stuff... even more than the celica has rite now..

and besides, xB is toyota.. so basically it owns the element

hehe, strakka, nobody mooches better than pie!!

hehe yeah I got kinda long winded there. And yes being the fact that it's toyota is another selling point w/ me. My only complaint is that at launch they will only be releasing the FWD xB/bB and, as far as I know, won't have the AWD just yet (or at all for that matter...who knows). That is one thing the element has over the xB, you can get the element in AWD. Anyway...hopefully I'm wrong and they actually have the AWD xB as one of the available models.

hmm the xB's a beast... the paper just did a little preview on it, and it looks..... weird........ i dunno man, that thing IS boxyness itsself... of course, new trends are popping up every day... (what the hell's with those damn diesel shoes and che guavara?!)... but i guess i can see how it could look nice... the engine bay looks pretty huge... almost for sure some of the hardcore tuners are gonna be swapping something in there... lol

yeah it is boxy! That's one of the reasons I like it. I mean like aerodynamic too but if I'm gonna be getting a true street racer I'd get a WRX STi, S2000, or Lancer Evo. Realisticlly though I can't afford to get a street racer, not because of money necessarilly, but because I need something I can transport stuff if I need to, transport friends if I need to, and looks aesthetically pleasing to me. Plus, again, money is a bit of an issue with this vehicle as it will be cheap out of the factory and will, to boot, have readily available aftermarket parts. And gas mileage is good too...'till I add the aftermarket parts...hehe anyway, the xB basically fills all the requirements I could want in a vehicle!

PS - oh and just a side note, the xA is known as the "ist" in Japan. No I didn't leave half the word out it's just ist. hehe Leave it to the japanese to come up with another strange name. (no offense to any Japanese currently present)

hmm you know, that makes a lot of sense....
affordable is one BIG thing... and dealing with parents is another.... grrrr.... but i always lose for some odd reason...

hmmm one of the main reasons i want a celi is cuz it looks nice... haha, SUCH a bad reason... but there's a lot more, like performance and fuel economy... ease of transportation isnt one of my big priorities.. maybe cuz im still an 18 year old kid...

aand... another thing that's high on my list is to be mildly disliked by the general public... *another* ricer with a big wing, crazy bodykit, and loud muffler, with that weird metallic green/gold paint....

'cept able to burn the freakin J-body econocars... and non-gt mustangs

hmmm...yeah a Celica wouldn't be bad either hehe. It's a toyota, looks nice ('cept I don't really like the back end), and has LOTS of aftermarket parts. Gas milage isn't that good but it IS a sports car. hehe And yeah I know how you feel I always wanted a sports car to burn all those guys that had the hopped up joints. But there were several factors keeping me from getting a fast car...LOL

Anyway, if you end up getting the Celica and you want the best performance get the GT-S not the GT. The GT is the economy model (1ZZ-FE engine) and the GT-S is the high performance model (2ZZ-GE engine). Though in the long run the GT-S will cost more (especially if you want to soup it up), because it requires premium fuel and gets a little less MPG. Anywho...I'm sure you already know all that. LOL

heh heh heh, you know i know it shadowmage

gas mileage really, really depends on how you drive the car... knowing me, im gonna have to fill up every week...

lotsa people say that the GT-S is a ripoff... 6 grand for 40 more horse, and negligable increase in torque... but still...

actually the GT-S is not going to be a rip off...or not as much as you think. Remember they are different engines, a great deal more different than you may think. The GT as you know is the economy engine which has a narrow (I believe, 33.1 degree) valve angle while the GT-S has a wider valve angle (43 degree angle; one of the main differences between the economy and sports engines)...amongst many other differences. In the long run, performance wise, the GT-S is a much better setup and a different beast altogether. The engine has more than just more horsepower, it has much more potential. So anywho...if you're wanting performance than it's the way to go hands down. If gas is the concern (and you still want the celica) then get the GT.

Here's a page with lots of good info comparing the two engine models:

http://www.everythingcelica.com/tech/_engine.html

As you can see from the above page the setup of both engines is different enough to at least consider the GT-S model celica.

Note: And if you end up getting the GT-S, you may find me at your front door pandering for a spin around the block......with me driving! j/k! LOL

hehe well we'll see...oh yes...we shall see...bwahahaha!!!

Anyway, so you have a lot of people in your area buying celicas huh? You have a lot of (if you'll excuse the term) ricers in your area? (just curious)

And actually there's a LOT of people that like to know info about this car. Me for one...but only because I'm trying to learn about cars...and I'm personally more interested in learning imports as I'm more impressed with them than with American vehicles. hmmmm...or did you mean that no one else on the board wants to know about the celica? LOL *begin spongebob voice* I am SO confused! */end spongebob voice*

Yeah...good luck in saving up the money for it btw! I hope it's not too long before you can get it. I know I'm anxious to get my xB but even at its low price I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it. Man...I really want the xB....(I know I know ya'll are tired of hearing that LOL)

BTW, quick question, do you read any of the import car magazines? Just wondering, cause this months import tuner has a really nice modificed celica that they turned into a touring car. Also a very interesting project I'd like to get more info on that they are working on involving souping up a suzuku aerio. It was actually really cool! They were able to get it 211 HP w/ exhaust on and 230 w/o. Turbo charged tiny-mobile! LOL Anywho....me shut up and return to hovel!

well, i dunno if you know where edmonton is... but it's in alberta... (canada)... and we're one of the *less* asian provinces up here... and in edmonton, well there's some asian people, but not a whole lot... i must say tho, after F&F, a LOT of the white people here are buying new cars... lots of them celica GT... and they're going all show, and no go.. which kinda makes me unhappy... cuz all the kids with mustangs and 300Ms... and accords can waste them...

so yeah, we got quite a few ricers.... there are SOME nice tuned cars, but they're rare.. u'd have to go up to ralliart's part of town to find them... although i have a vid of a 22B (sp?) WRX owning some mustangs pretty close to my house...

heh, usually the celica's kinda the odd one out... either you love it or hate it, for two reasons... first, the styling.. it's not for everyone, especially whose bubbly, stretchy headlights... and the fat rear bumper... and second because of the nature of a high performnance, all motor import car... basically we're talking VERY little torque but good power anyhwere above 4k... a lot of the time, people dont know that.. and get dissapointed with the car very quickly... (usually people that drive american cars, such as mustangs... )

hehe, we all want our cars.. soon, if not now ^__^

ahh yeah, i used to read import tuner... i found that they're not quite technical enuf... and the stuff in there isnt as useful as it could be, you know? i think they focus more on the import culture rather than the cars themselves, so i stopped reading that... =P i DID see the tuned celica tho... it was on the front page of the APR site.. but realistically, why would you want to widebody something like that...? lol, especially in the rear... hehe
i read Super Street now.. heh, for the same price, you get a much thicker magazine, and feature cars from japan.. which makes me happy.. =)

aiya!!! dun remind me of the old gen corollas!!! ><" **sigh** i was gonna try to buy ralliart's old '85 GT-S... so i asked my parents "if i cant have a nice car, can i have an old one?" and got bitched out AGAIN...... dammit!
