RcDabbler, where did you get those crown gears? are they as bulky as the zzmt ones? i will have to postpone this project for a while as i am getting 2 ssmt 1/43!!! my dream come true!!! finally i can build my 1:24 realistic crawler....two of 'em.
but don't worry, i will still continue with this project, eventually.
also, i figure that making the housing for such tiny axles and the steering knuckles is going to be a pain...gotta fine tune my skills first, im still a noob in custom making things...

In the picture with the drill bits there is a plastic bag that bag contained a pinion and crown gear for a marchon slot car.

I still dont like the amount of space I lose to the gears so I will look at some other ways of doing it also.
