noxorc, i think your changing regular controllers into booster controllers idea is great. i have a whole bunch of extra controllers from dead bits, but what button would you be willing to sacrifice for a boost button?? regular controllers dont have the extra buttons on the top like the booster controllers do.
anyways a few days ago i got 2 thunderfighter clone cars and instead of a blob they have a chip ( on the car PCB) i've heard from somewhere that if you have this chip, instead of a blob like tomy bits have, you modify it into a boost car. can anyone verify this for me??? and how you can do this??

I am interested in maybe buying some of those controllers from you.
As to the button... we add one....no sacrifice.

i think adding a shifting toggle would be great fun. you know the one they have in those arcade racing games. and then we could find someway to add a real exhaust and have afterburn when you start shifting gears way to much. thats just me ranting on what id like my bit to have, or any of my r/c cars have

why does everyone like turbo controllers... and cars
i have one and i only got it cuz it came with an extra clear body...
It only "seems" faster cuz regular is too slow, there no fun in it except track racing.. then it actually has a use for turns u can slow it doen

Why a "booster" car?
I bought my Tomy 350Z because I wanted to do a triple cell 3.8 car that could be controlled. I think that will be where the booster cars will shine. It is a total slug without boost with the stock 2.2 at 1.2 volts. I will be completing my car tomorrow. I followed the Layman triple cell mod and with the potentiometer. I have also built a stand alone charger. I am anxiously waiting to see how quick it is at 3.6 volts off boost with the 3.8. It should be a terror racing in our "Mod" class. We are going to have races at work during lunch on Wednesdays. Should be fun!

Been there, done that. With the boost off, it is pretty slow. I am using a standard 3 cell, though. I usually take off with the boost, and use it on straights, and when I want to slide the rear end around. I take off the boost if I need to get the car under control, or if I go around corners w/o flipping.
Check out my "Alternate Booster Button Location" mod in this forum. You can put a small boost button into the fwd/rev. button so you can operate all speed control with the left thumb and all turning with the right. It Rocks!!!!

I think the bubble display thing is kinda cool too.

I don't know of anyone that has owned a Shen look down on them. I think they're the absolute best clone on the market.....Period! And straight out the box (or dome), they'll run ANY Micro to the turf.
That's my opinion, and I'm stickin to it!

I've tried a 1.0, 1.6, 2.6, 3.2, and a 3.8 in both cars, and in every situation the MS sport was quicker, and nearly uncontrollable. I'm really curious if my MS Sport is a fluke, or if Tomy has done some tweakin'.

my sport is the same way also its the only car that will run my clone 2.6 like a 3.4(boosters r-spec gets smonked all the time by my sport and clone motor)

Boost .vs non-Boost designs...
Namuna & Nox,
The difference in the boost .vs non-boost circuits is based on the TX2C chip. What happens is that the TX chip puts out a series of pulses in a pre-determined sequence depending on what button you push. This is known an OOK (On-Off Keying). The turbo button is just another OOK pattern that is transmitted to the car.
On the RX circuit the RX2C chip detects what OOK patten has been received and drives the output to suit. In this case the RX board prolly has a different H-Bridge design (H-bridges are use to supply current to a motor in one of two directions, hence fwd & rev) that accounts for the boost funtion.
More info can be obtained from the tx2/rx2 data sheet here .
More info can be found generally here .
Cheers,
ph2t.
