I just picked up some more Tamiya paint today. I'm going to be painting my Skyline Gun Metal tonight. I will let you know how it turns out. Talking to the guy at the shop, he said to make sure you wash your body with dish soap and let it dry to remove any leftover residue from the molding, etc.

I used Testors spray paint on mine. It got a decent finish, but an airbrush would have given a more controlled application. I kind of had to choose between spatters and way too thick. I chose way too thick and have a couple of runs in the paint, but not that bad.

Masking the windows and everything else (epsecially all the grilles on th body kit pieces) isn't much fun, and its hard to avoid a little bit of seepage. I will have to touch up the black in a couple of spots on mine as a result, though the windows came out nice.

I have used the Plasti-kote Kameleon Color paint on my cars before and it turned out good. It is the same set up as the Dupli Color with a base coat, main coat, and clear coat.

Well......I'm in the process of laying the Tamiya Gunmetal color on my Skyline, and I can tell you that the stuff goes on very smooth. Unlike on my Zips, I used Tamiya primer first just to be safe. I know what brand I will continue to use. BTW, This car is going to look awesome!

Here is a little preview. The trim around the windows will be fixed, I masked it that way on purpose. The original paint wasn't masked very well around the windows.

I will have better photos when I'm done tomorrow with the other stuff and have better light to shoot pictures in. Believe me when I say this color looks awesome in person.

Oh wow! That color looks great, Bad Company! I can't wait to pick up the metallic blue for my supra. Do you have to use the white primer or can you just paint over the body right away because i'm running a little low on cash now.

Thanks. I normally don't use primer on my Zips, but after hearing about people having problems with paint sticking to the Xmods, I went ahead and used it. Also, the Xmod bodies are a different plastic than the Zip bodies. Be sure to wash your body and let it dry before you paint it.

Whether you use primer or not is up to you. I can't tell you how well it will work without it cuz I personally haven't tried it yet.

No sanding at all. I asked the guy at the hobby store who does a lot of model car painting. He told me no need to, just wash the body with dish soap and water, let it air dry, and start painting. I used grey primer to prep the body and give the paint something better to stick to.
