ehh, im inclined to agree wtih MTL and alex.... the highest powered drifting car IS prolly the jun supra.. while an evo 7 could prolly pull it off at 600-800 (retarded) hp... the supra only drifts not b/c of skill, it's simply overpowering the tires to the point of them burning out...
i learned to drift in vancouver in a 240sx with an s13 engine in it... pushed to about 250 hp... ABOUT.... i was really crappy at it cuz i would panick and just let go of the gas, but then i realized the sides of the track were padded really well... i got a lot better, but nothing like the ultra-drifts japanese drivers pull in the mountains, just 90 degree corner drifts...
heh, back home in icy, snowy edmonton i can drift a 165 hp subaru.. but only on snow. ONLY.. on snow...
and drifting IS faster, but only on the corners that you have to slow down for... thus, in shallow curves and HIGH speed corners, drifting is just for show. (drifting bits is VERY close to impossible... you can do something that Looks liek a drift but it's not ^_^)

I can't!
I probably don't know the real meaning of drifting! My cars just do donuts if I try to initiate a "drift". Is a drift the same as a "power slide"?

drifting IS possible. Its so hard it takes me forever to do correctly, but its possible. here it is, step by step for a smooth racetrack.
i use stock magnets, because the RE ones give too much power.
i use a 3.0 with orange (if its reaalllyy slippery, teal) gearing. I use a soft front stabius (it lets front slide out enough) and bit RACER softs on front and bit CHAR-G on the front. This lets the back AND front slip, not just the back. If only the back slips, then donuts happen.
now the hard part.
Since there is no differential or 4wd, the car is very inconsistent. it will completely freak out and spin if you tap the edge of the track or simply hit a less/more grippy part of the track.
actually drifting: IMPORTANT: get going near top speed on at least a good 2.6 motor. (since the car is not proportional, if you try to drift before you hit top speed the car just spins out). Now, start turning, and as SOON as you can see your car starting to slip, or even slightly before (if its slippery) let go of the turning, and let the car slide ever so slightly sideways.
after about 3/4ths of the turn, either let go of the accelerator for a tiny split second to let the car regain traction but not stop, or if you need to (you often do), tap the steering slightly the opposite direction to straighten the car out.
If you are doing multiple turns at once, it can get sticky. try to let your car regain traction after each curve so it does not spin.
-NOTE: check the tires and ground for dust and such, it wont work right with it.
now go try it, and dont get too frusterated!

ever since i had my bit, ive been trying to perfect the settings for it to drift the way i wanted it to..but sort of gave up ....and now my controller doesnt work and i havent used my bit in over a month...
if youve ever seen the larger rc cars like the MicroRs4 drift like mad, is because you can do it ALOT easier if u have proportional steering and overall better technology...
haha and yeah, PIE posted a decent link for about 50 short drifting vids...ive watched some of the longer ones at skool (which has a faster connection har har)
if u can, watch the video of the pink S14 that is about 6MB long..that is a good one...

drifting is slower when it comes to real cars racing on the track.
but it does look awsome when done correctly

ive actually seen an Option video of 2 Truenos drifting against an R34, and in the end the 2 Truenos won because they passed the skyline on the OUTSIDE of a turn....now this just seems strange, either the Truenos were highly tuned or the driver of the skyline just sucked....
so yeah, drifting isnt all about speed though, its about skill and control over your vehicle...thats why there are competitions and such

lol yeah, MTL i got that vid....
one of the 86s won im pretty sure cuz it had 200+ hp in a thin little shell, whereas the other one had about ... 1...60..?i think?
the important thing to note is that the skyline CAN drift, but it's very difficult, and your better off grip driving... the power/weight ratio works to the 86s' advantage, as well as the handling involved..

i would have to agree here. the bits don't really drift, the power slide/oversteer in a corner. i've tried mulitple combinations including dual battery with a 2.6 and it still doesn't really drift.
on a side note, some of the car guys might find this funny, but ever seen the commericial of the nissan maxima doing a drift/slide? well my coworker bet that i couldn't get my maxima to do it and that the commericial was a computer mock up because FWD cars can drift. so we waited for it to get nice and icy and went to an empty parking lot and showed him FWD car CAN drift with the absence of good traction

go FWD all the way!! drifting an fwd takes hella skill.... it can be done on pavement, you just need to be going damn fast, and use the handbrake very well... my friend can do it in his prelude... which kinda scares me @_@
i'll stick to 240s and sylvias
(btw, which gen maxima was it?)
