Hey HO502cid,

I didn't go to all the trouble that Mr Freeze went through but his method should work.

I'm lucky enough to own an airbrush and that's what I used to paint my rims.

I kept the rear axle and the front knuckle as is (in other words, I didn't take them apart) and just masked around the perimeter with masking tape. This way only the outside of the rims would be painted.

I didn't do anything special to cover the front axle. I just put on a LIGHT coat of paint and let it dry. I also put a coat of clear for shine and protection.

An airbrush makes such a fine mist that the paint doesn't have a chance of getting into the small spaces and cause trouble. Also I'm using acrylic paints that dry relatively fast. (I can handle a new paint job in about an hour without messing it up.) Enamels need a lot longer to dry and if it's put on even a little to thick, it could flow into the small spaces where you don't want it to go.

So, one way to safely paint front rims is to paint with an airbrush. Or do it Mr Freeze's way and mask.

Whatever method, use LIGHT coats!

Have fun!

Rubber cement works as a mask also if you don't have a liquid frisket. It's a little gummy to paint on unless you thin it.

Thanks to both of you, luckily I have an airbrush and know how to work it quite well. I have an awesome lime green I am going to try on a body soon.

DriveWRX and HO502cid:

Are you guys airbrushing acrylics??? If so, how have you found the flow, coverage and finish to be when using them in your gun??? What brand is working the best for you???

I've only used them on artwork and painting warhammer figs by hand. When I've airbrushed acrylics before I did have a hard time getting the settings right. I'd usually have the medium drying too fast and getting a rough or grainy texture to it... not good when trying to get a glossy smooth finish on a Bit body.

Any tips on acrylic airbrushing???

No, it wouldn't

Skylines aren't meant for "BLING BLING YO BIG PIMPIN"

They're meant to do one thing: Go fast as hell.
