My Opinion-
If it has a transfer case, and is usaully a truck, SUV, or jeep, and the wheels are locked together when in 4 low or 4 high, it has 4WD.
If it has a clutch pack or center diff, isn't a truck, and the wheels can rotate independantly to a limited degree it is AWD. Ironically enough, many AWD cars have open diffs, so they are actually 2WD. (And 2WD cars are actually 1WD-that's why my civic burns out on one side only-tourqe goes to the "easier" side of the diff.). True AWD would be 3 limited slips, one for each set of wheels and one in the center (or a clutch pack.) The lancer Evo 7 has such a system.

well, power is transfered to all wheels being driven so long as the wheels don't break traction. break traction on one side of the diff gets you your one wheel burnout

I wasn't looking to start an argument and I probably shouldn't have said anything at all--I was just trying to point out that you're being a little too hard on Radio Shack.

HAHAHA this is the best post I ever posted I swear...
I didn't think it was that big a deal I just thought the distinction should be made because AWD is technicly superior to 4WD.
I mean if some stupid used car salesman conned me into buying a 4WD car when he said it was AWD I would be a mad customer.
