If there is or was a tone on the controller it is more than likely a byproduct of using the same rev. of boards to make a variety of their controllers etc... They're new disney controllers have 3 buttons, one of which is... MUSIC. It also means that not every board would have the tone effect depending on what is allowing or dissallowing that function to remain. E.g. paths left closed or open.
And as far as the "speaker" issue goes. One word...ViBrAtIoNs~~~
