ZZ SE Crusher

Ok, maybe this belongs in another catagory but it was when I got my SEs that inspired me to put this together.

This forum was very helpful when trying to fix my steering problems. No chance of returning as they were from eBay. No local suppliers in Zew Zealand you know

Apologies if this is a bit pic heavy.

I like my tanks.
I like proportional.
I was outta luck.

I wanted to drive over my SEs with something that was close in proportion.

In short
1. Select scale
2. Fit electronics
3. Drive

First step what was the proportion of the ZZ?
Lenght between 1/62 - 1/64 depending on model of body used.
Height 1/43 - 1/44.
Since I wanted to drive over them I had to go with height scale, 1/48 (closest model scale).

RC tanks are available from 1/72 upwards.
1/72 was a bit small

Next, get the bits inside.
Reciever, you stock 2 channel Futaba RX.
2x Mtroniks Reverse ESC. Good to down to 14 turns 160Amps.
Overkill I know but I had them and they were smallish.
Batteries

A collage of the build process.
Removing the electronics from their shells.
Grinding off the excess heatsink from the ESC.
Getting batteries for the RX from a 9v 200mAh NiMH battery.
Not what I was expecting inside the battery.
Looks like AAAA
The ESC can switch 2.4v while the RX needs 4.8.
The motors that came with the model were designed to run on 2.4
Fitting the radio tp the turrent of the tank
One stick on the remote was rotated so I had two vertical controls
Almost done

To do.
Add some lights

How does it go?
On 2 cells pretty slow. 4cells, now we're cooking. The motors probably won't last long on this though.
normally when a tank runs over a car it collapses. These dont, the first time I tried it just rolled the zz then flipped itself.

I could have saved myself a lot of time and money and bought a premade unit. us$50
This one cost
$20 Model+ $40 Radio+ $80 ESCs+ about 8 hrs to put it all together
Since this is standard 1/10 radio I have access to all their frequencies and not just the 27/47 etc of the all in one RCs.

thanks for reading
