im running on linoleum???with a sway bar and springs..and running full traction tires..maybe if i put sports back on it will spin ...all i know with the 3.8 it works flawless...can this be done to any bit/zip ?i put a diff. battery in there so maybe it aint touching as good as it should be ??i dont know any suggestions /...its quick but i think should be quicker with a 3.8 and green gears .runs over carpet like nothing though ...has the power just not the spin?

Mine spins on linoleum also. I do however, have stock tires and no springs so I'm not sure how that would affect it. Mine may also be a bit newer if that makes a difference. The biggest improvement I noticed was off the line. With red gears and motor it used to be slow off the line with good top speed. Now it rockets off the line like it used to with green grears and reaches top speed quicker. Not sure if the rpms are any better. This can be done with any of the Bit or Zips as long as you know what wire is hot in forward. The improvement may not be as great with others though. The reason this works so well with the Zips is because the PCB is so wastefull in passing power on to the motor. Bits tend to be better about that but I am sure there would have to be some improvement. Why are you running green gears though? The top speed on those is going to be lower than the reds. That may have something to do with your lack of spin too. Now that I think of it, your turning radius may not be as tight as mine to begin with which might explain your lack of doughnuts.

I think what would be really cool is to have a race with each of the different mods. One with the no reverse mod, another with the swapped PCB to see what gives the best performance. Would be alot of fun thats for sure.

with every one saying reverse is faster than foward can you change the polarity and hook it up to the reverse side and get a little more? and why is reverse faster?

I suspect that the motor has alot to do with reverse being faster and not the PCB. Just a thought but I really doubt that swapping the forward and reverse wires is going to get you much improvement in performance if any.

here's something to think bout ..if you put a microsizer board in there ..it will be even quicker with reverse and you can use the same conrttroller grant you use the same mhz board..and you can get a spare microsizer chassis for kinda cheap!

Gruder, glad it worked and you like it!
Catman, I have thought of doing that but I couln't get past a few issues with that mod.
1. it requires the person performing the mod to have steady hands and be good with making the connections
2. it requires the purchase of 2 cars to make one good one (1 Zip and one Micro or other car of choice
3. it assumes that once I have purchased the donor car I am physically capable of parting it out (may have too much fun with it)

The idea of the no reverse mod is that it is cheap (free), easy to do for most anyone, and is easily undone incase it doesn't work.
The PCB swap is none of these. Will I try a PCB swap at some point, maybe but, I am not willing to spend the money to go that much faster than the competition as it wouldn't be fair or fun. I want everyone I race to be competitive or even so if I swap my PCB and become that much faster I have to expect them to do the same or not race that particular car. On the track I have set up reverse is pointless as it would simply cause wrecks so I don't mind losing that ability.
Just my opinion and nothing more. If everyone ends up swapping PCBs then I will have to do the same to be competitive but until then I will race without reverse

Re: PCB mod

Does reverse still go away if you just jumper a diode from motor yellow to + cell with out cutting wire?

Zipzap, that's a great thought and I suspect that you could keep reverse using that idea but I doubt you would realise the potential of the mod in doing so. The PCB is the weak link in the circuit as it offers alot of resistance in the power supply to the motor. Although electricity takes the shortest path there will be some loss through the PCB if left connected as experienced when developing the mod. That said, nobody has tried using a diode so I would give it a shot and see what happens. If you don't like it it is always easy enough to remove it.

Great thought!

Question confused

im new and i have been readng this fourm and came upon this mod. when i got my zz i defiantly noticed it was slow. when i popped the turbo motor it flew. i was wondering all you have to is cut the yellow wire off the pcb and cut some of the covering off and place it on the positive battery terminal? is this correct because i was wondering about the other end that is soldered on thing what ever it is.

Mike,
That's pretty much all this mod is. The PCB (circuit board) is left disconnected from the yellow wire once it has been cut and attatched to the battery positive. It is a very simple mod which is the beauty of it.
