do you people know nothing? Keiichi Tsuchiya, invented the drift, as he is the drift king. what you people don't know is that when a drift is done correctily it can be more efficient than many types of "grip" driving, i suggest you all go look online for places that clarify drifting like...>>> http://www.driftclub.com <<< they have a great online techinique guide. OH! or you can go look for, "Keiichi Tsuchiya's drift bible" it's a great video that explains the drift and how amazing it truly is.

haha. no. you are wrong. tsuchiya was inspired by Kunimitsu Takahashi. HE invented the drift. tsuch is just the modern drift master. he didn't invent the drift though.

its also not a more efficient cornering technique or else all f1 and gp race cars would do it.

i have seen a drifter carry more speed into and out of a corner over grip driving. but the fault of drifting is the tire wear. if it was a one lap race i believe a drifting car would win but for a multi lap race, the tires would be shot after 2 laps depended on the track and type of drifting IMO
and yes i love initial d as my screen name her is 3 series (bmw) takumi

well, you are right he did not invent it but as he is the king, he invented the modern drift techniques, he applys many things to the drifts that he uses and if you have ever seen the Drift Bible you would agree with me that keiichi can dift a corner, at almost if not faster than the speed of a grip driver.

its been popular in japan for a decade or so, and just with the introduction of the d1 drift series to western US, americans are learning what its all about, which will sadly, blow the sport up and take away all meaning behind it.
drifting was also not meant for any track racing whatsoever, it is simply a sport. it takes massive amounts of skill to go in and out of a drift properly, it takes throttle, brake, and steering control.
heres some images of the top drifters in US 2003 d1 gp:

WOOO!! GO QPIZZLE!!! you just blew everyone away with the correct meaning of DRIFTING! hehe and its funnnn.. well technically i dont drift i powerslide cause i have a FWD civic but its fun takin turns at like 40MPH and sliding the hell out of it!

if you want to drift with your x-mod go to the wood gym floor. Use the awd kit and stage 2 motor with the 7t setup or white gear, anyway it's the lowest pinion motor. I used to do it all the time with my skyline. It's pretty easy to do as long as the floor is slighty dusty. NOT dusty like under your couch either.
