Question Your experiences with the LXX clones

Was just looking over the ToyEast.com website for my first genuine BCG, and I noticed that they had LXX clones in multi-packs for less than $10 ea (not including shipping, of course). Are the LXX clones any good? Or should I just buy a couple of genuine bits and be done with it!

Also, for anyone else who ordered from toyeast.com, are there any import taxes or fees on top of the shipping charges?

Thanks!

as a Lxx owner I'll say like this.. It's great! have no problem with it. The stock stuff in the Lxx is bat NiMH, no crip-crap thing, good tyres, 3.0 motor ( think it is litle slower like 2.2 micro-b ).

I think I will order a 4 pack of the LXX's, I guess they can be used for parts worst case, but from what I'm hearing cruising the boards - they are not too terrible. I guess calling their stock motor a "3.0" is a marketing gimmick. I am finding that the motor color codes mean very little with these clones. The red or orange, or is it reddish orange motors that came with my other motors are pretty quick - but I don't have anything else to compare them to. I bought a couple of Hot Wheels KIT racers with the Tomy yellow and orange motors, but haven't had the time to try them out. The crip-cap doesn't bother me because we tend to keep them close when we are racing them. Both of my clones are only good for 10-12 ft before they stutter.
I'll probably buy more of the KIT racers for their motors and batteries, so I will have 4 cars that are identically equipped for my future miniature speedway. All I can say is, my family is having a total blast with these things on a hardwood floor!

I picked up these 4 cars off eBay for $71 inc. shipping from a dealer in Minnesota ...

I have had been very happy with them. I was going to buy them for a dealer in Hong Kong but they were cheaper from Minnesota and I didn't have to risk dealing with overseas if things didn't work out. Here is what mine came with ...

* 4 Different Skyline GT-R JGTC painted racing bodies
* 3.0 (30,000RPM) motors
* English instruction manual
* Full-function 2-channel, 6-way remote control

I hope to add more of the LXX cars to my collection. Hope this helps.

I think that is the set that i was looking at!
4 Skylines, each on a different frequency.
ToyEast.com has the set for $38 USD (shipping not included), but they are coming from Hong Kong, so they will have to be shipped overseas and go through customs, etc. I was looking at ToyEast because I want a genuine Tomy Bit to compare my "clones" to. I was looking at the Speed Racer Mach 5 as my first real Bit. I'd probably use another body on it though, to preserve the cool Mach 5! The Mach 5 Bit costs almost as much as the 4 Lxx's!
But "regular" Bits are going for about $24. When is that next paycheck?

You might want to try contacting hobbyground@hotmail.com

That is who I bought the cars from in Minnesota. He may be able to set you up and then you don't have to worry about overseas shipping or customs.

I'm not sure on Original Bits but I know he was also selling the plain LXX series. I almost bought them too but was short on funds at the time and wanted to check out the LXXs before I bought more of them.

How can they get away with calling it a Char-G and having that big G on the controller? Isn't that copyright infringement?

Funny how some manufacturers will blatently rip-off the Char-G name, but won't dare try to rip off the real auto manufacturers name. (Example: Hodna instead of Honda)

Someone posted a link to an article on msnbc.com that said that Tomy/Hobbico is waiting for some patents to get approved. After that happens, they will start going after the clone makers. I am a little concerned because without any competition from the clones, Hobbico has no competition to lower their inflated prices. I read in another thread that Target had MicroSizers on sale for $19.99, but they quickly sold out. At 19.99 for a genuine bit, it makes little sense to spend $15 for a clone. But if the clone prices drop some more, maybe we'll see microsizers for less $15.
I suppose prices will really drop after the initial craze wears off, actually that might happen tonight (Dec. 24th).

Well, I took the plunge and ordered from toyeast.com.
I ordered the Lxx 4 pack, Tomy Char-G "coin battle" set (2 cars that have spring loaded parts that pop off when you collide), Tomy Nissan Skyline R34, and the Tomy go Go GO Mach 5.
Averaged out, it cost $20 per car. I probably would have been better off buying MicroSizers as for my first "real" Bits, but you can't get the really cool bodies here in the states. I'm really looking forward to the "coin battle" set, and the Mach 5! I'll let you guys know how toyeast.com works out.

Hmmm, I guess I'll have 4 candidates if they run another "worst tinyRC contest". As long as the "guts" are trouble free, I'll be a happy tinyRC'er.

update..

Got an e-mail last night confirming that my order is shipped.
Looks like I have a 14 day wait now until I get to try the Lxx clones, and the genuine Bits.
