My Projects
Hi there! This is my first time posting so please bear with me. I`ve just enclosed a few pics of my 3 shells i`m working on. I`ve only had them a fortnight. The first is a Peugeot(i think!). I`ve lowered the body over the chassis using the new slot method. I`ve had to cut and lift the bonnet/hood to allow for suspension travel from the front end. I`ve also made a small front spoiler from hin plastic. As u can see it`s ready fro paint. What paint is best to use? I`m on a budget. Is aerosol car paint ok to use? I don`t want anything to react to the plastic. Let me know what you think.

My second shell is a Mini Cooper. I`ve made this using a Hot Wheels diecast model ,taking a mould in rubber, casting a plaster model in the mould and pulling down a plastic shell using a vacuum forming machine. The shell hasn`t had its detail or paint yet, i`m just enjoying racing this onme as it`s so light!

My third shell is lowrider/lead sled body based on the typical early 80`s American saloons. This was made by taking a mould of a Matchbox Powertrack slot-car, casting a plastic model in it. I then took a section about 3cms long out of te middle of the model making it into a 2 door from a 4 door. The arches were re-sculpted and another plastic shell was formed using the vacuum machine. This one was a little thicker so i could carve into it using my dental handpiece/drill and various burrs. This needs a lot more finishing work than the others due to the straight edge body lines. I`m getting ther slowly but surely!Sory about the pics. Its a webcam!

It was a plain white plastic blank. The mini one was about 1.5mm thick and the lowrider was either 3 or 4mm thick. They are made for the dental trade. Mouthguards, impression trays etc. What price are u payng for your plastic blanks? What size are they?

plastic blanks? i think your using a lot thicker plastic than i am. mine is nearly identical to that of a 1/10 r/c body maybe a bit thinner. it comes in sheets, and rolls. which are fairly cheep.

I'm sorry, but I've got to ask.
Where do you get the plastic blanks?

The plastic blanks are a produst we use in the dental trade to manufacture gumshields, impression trays(if you have dentures or crowns you`ll know what i mean). The ones we use are available from dental equipment suppliers and cost about 40p each plus vat and carriage. They are roughly the same size as a cd box and are available in various thickness from 0.5mm to around 5mm. the more you buy the cheaper they get! The ones i useed were just in the cupboard gathering dust. thats the only reason why i chose that thickness.
