You need a rosin core solder to make it it stick (Radio Shack Cat. No. 64-006). The key to soldering is to heat the surface that the solder is suppose to stick to and then add the solder. Of course you don't want to heat the battery up that much. I'm pretty sure the heat is not good for it. One last thing, don't burn yourself.

ok so i should heat the surface until it alone can melt the solder? or do i heat it up and touch the solder to the iron and drag it onto the surface?

Thats correct, the surface should be heated so that the solder will stick to it. You will know its hot enough when you see the solder get drawn to the heated object. If it is not done this way you get what is called a cold solder and it will come lose because it wasnt properly applied. hope this helps you some. Just remember dont over heat the surface of the battery, only enough heat to melt the solder on to it.
The best solder to use is a 60-40 60% lead, 40% tin. higher the lead content lower the melt temperature.
