definitely dont use carpet, even thing carpet tracks hair, they can prove very annoying after a while. And you can get cardboard and plyworrk(also good) from home depot.

Let us not forget about static electricity.

Why people use anything other then foam board for inexpensive, light weight tracks is puzzling. It's cheap and looks great if you take the time to cut it right. Pressed felt is also another great suggestion I've heard.

Here's how it goes. I haven't done it yet, but this is what I'm planning. Maybe this will motivate a few of you out there to build your own tracks and send in some pics. I want a big track. I don't have room for one. Wife would kill me if I take up too much space and storage...so what can I do? Easy...cut some pieces of foam board like puzzle pieces. Cut 10 corners, 5 straights, maybe even a few swirves. Not only can I take it down when I'm done playing and stack them nicely, when I put the track back up, I can make it different by changing a few straights with corners. The walls are the only thing I haven't thought of. I'm sure there are a million options out there for it though. Foam board goes together beautifully. Your car will hardly feel where the pieces are connected. Tell me what you think will make great barriers. They have to be removable. I got this idea thinking back to my old slot race set I got one Christmas years ago.

Not a bad idea! Thanx! I can even pre-build the corner barriers and just snap them onto glued flat lego pieces connected to the track.

Lego's are expensive though. Any cheap lego type products out there and where can I buy them? Online is fine. I just need to get a lot for my buck(bucket size). I want the regular size ones too. None of that brick size stuff for infants
