SE generations, dates & motor switch?

I grabbed a bunch of cheap SE's recently for my son (for later, he's 4!), and even though I got "early" one's like the Audi TT and Mustang Concept, they have the "blob" motor endbells and "04" mfg dates...

Does this mean they are actually gen. 2?

The "Generations" sticky needs to be updated to reflect Gen. 3, like the Vipers, Ford GT and others.


I did get two Vipers, that use a completely different motor endbell, which looks like a square plate, and has the "up" sticker on it.

Are the older, blob motors compatible with the Viper chassis?


Lastly, can anyone clarify the PWM speed issue with respect to SE generation? (which gen did it switch to 50%, or whatever...)
