My Friend The Bigmouth

hey

okay well me and my friend have 2 gen 1 xmods and my friedn broke his so he got this lot of 2 xmods and a bunch of other stuff problem is this is his stats

carbon fiber EVERYTHING
50 k motor
nsx body (its the most aerodynamically made)
and 6 cells

me im probably going to have a stage 2 motor carbon fiber nothing and 6 cells but i THINK my friends diff and stuff like that hasnt been modded

do you think the outcome is going to be bad for me and if so anything i can do to turn the tables around OTHER than spending alot of money (getting carbon fiber everything and ebaying a powerful motor)

p.s. my friend doesnt have an FET upgrade wouldnt that motor burn up his PCB if he used it

I'd say that motor stands a good chance of burning something. If I were him I'd measure the draw before I put it in. That said, you'd really be suprised at how little a difference most of the carbon fiber and what not will make. I'd take a better driver with a worse car over a better car with a worse driver.

All skills being equal, the better car will win. But what constitutes a better car is determined by many factors. If his motor is a high winder, you're going to take him in hairpins. Lay out a shorter track with tighter corners. He won't be able to exploit his top end, and his lack of torque will really hurt.

In short, take advantage of the situation. He gets the goodies, so make him foot most of the bill. Take what's left and manipulate circumstances to your advantage.

eh... carbon fiber wont' give that much benefit. Plastic is already super light. If you crash, perhaps the carbon fiber would hold up better.

aerodynamics aren't going to matter much on this scale and speed. Personally, I can't tell the difference between any of mine.

50k rpm motor..... well, It would be a lot more fun to remain relatively stock, imo, and beat him... I'm right now wrapping a 42T armature to put in a stage 1 motor.... I'd imagine with a 6 cell or so that it would reach around 50k.

With that much power, awd will becoming important for accel and control. Also, keep up on maintenance, make sure stuff stays clean and lubed up before you run. He might have nice stuff, but if it starts to get gummed up, that will slow down his lower torque motor.

Try to get him to do a race for like 10 minutes and see how long his FETs can last. There are some motors out there that will be that fast and not fry stock FETs, but they have to be made with smaller gauge wire to keep from drawing to much power.
