1/24 Rock Crawler

Aside from a TTTT-type project using a Hot Wheels truck, I am also beginning constrution on a 1/24 Crawler.

I am using a Speed 300 motor through a Mini-T tranny (locked) as a enter diff, and am looking at the new Venom mini monster truck as a doner for the front and rear solid axles. It will be on a 4-link cantilevered suspension.

My question on this is, will a speed control made from a servo live while powering 6 volts through a Speed 300 motor, or will that amperage kill it? If it won't work, I will just get a normal esc, but if I can use a servo I an save a little money.

a servo converted esc cannot handle a speed 300 motor you are planning to use on your project, i would suggest for you to use a quantum esc w/ reverse, this tiny esc have a footprint of 1inch small enough to fit on your 1/24 rock crawler, or you could use a modified mini-z electronic board (w/ upgraded fets to handle that kind of motor), but if you ask me, a speed 300 motor is overkill for a 1/24 size crawler, a well geared 130 type motor has enough torque to crawl your truck over rocks!.

I agree with killer. I've got a transfer case that would probably be ideal for your application. I'll have to find out where I got it though.

Here's a couple links that may help.

http://www.solarbotics.com/

http://www.pololu.com/products/gearbox.html

The scratch built crawler I built is geared very low. I don't know the exact ratio off hand but it's slow.

BTW...How have you been Killer? I've been out of the loop for quite sometime and have been doing the Micro Flight thing lately.

My 1/24th crawler got borrowed for an apearrance at a 1:1 4x4 club meeting not long ago. Here's a pic.
