Just purchased an XMODS today and I like it a lot. The transmitter did not turn on at all at first so I thought I had a bad battery. I checked it with a volt meter and it was somewhat low. Then I compared it to the Radio Shack 9V battery I happened to buy while buying my XMODS and noticed it was about 1/8" shorter than the Radio Shack battery! The point is that all brands of 9V batteries are not the same height. This means that the battery may not be making a good connection in the transmitter. Your batteries in the car may be getting low as well. I had a similar experience, checked the voltage on my rechargeable batteries, and they were low.

The question is not wether or not it's a new 9v, the question is is it making good contact? Is it a radio shack 9v or some other brand?

If you have access to a digital voltmeter, check both the transmitter and car battery voltage. A new 9 volt battery should read 9 volts or more and fully charged batteries should read about 1.4 volts or more each. If you dont have a voltmeter, try another set of batteries in the car. You could buy a cheap set of disposable alkalines to try this. I have purchased batteries several times in the past where the polarity of the battery (+ and -) was backwards. I doubt that this is your problem but it is possible. The first thing is to make sure the battery in the transmitter is making a good connection as well as the batteries in the car. Also make sure that you rear wheels spin freely. If there is something either in between the wheel or between the gears it may be causing it to bind.
