Underbody Lights v1.0
Okay I think I might have this figured out (no pics yet though). Me and 2 other people have been working on the underbody lights hardcore for the last couple of days (well yesterday and today) and have a "version" of it working but will still keep working on it. Basically we took a 3v Lithium battery (looks like a watch battery but bigger) and holder (though the can be hard to find), a slide switch, 4 1.7V wide angle red LEDs, some speaker wire 22 gauge, and a soldering iron.
First you take some wire and seperate it (the plastic sorrounding the wire with the white stripe is positive the other is negative). Strip some of the plastic off the wire on both ends. When done with that do it 4 more times. You should have 5 positive and 5 negative wires.
Second take the Lithium battery holder. One side should have 3 prongs on it 2 of them are positive and 1 is negative. The one negative prong is the one on the round end while the 2 positive are on the flat end. Solder one positive wire to either one of the positive prongs, doesn't matter which one. Then solder a negative wire to the negative prong. You can put that down now.
Now get the LEDs out. If you look closely there are two metal prongs sticking out of the bottom. One is longer then the other one. THe long one is positive and the shorter one is negative. Can you take a guess what to do next? Yep more soldering. Just match the wire to the metal prong Postive to positive and nevagtive to negative.
Now that is done, here is where it gets interesting. With the LEDs take the individual wires and twist them together....yes...all four of them. Positive to positive and negative to negative. Once you are done with that....get the sliding swtich out.
On to the sliding switch. There are 3 prongs on the back of this, the middle on is negative and the left one and right one is positive. Now after have twisting all the positive wires and all the negative wires together you should have one big positive and negative wire. Now the last part of soldering and matching....Solder the big negative wire to the middle prong on the switch and the big positive wire to the left or right prong, once again it doesn't matter which one......
All done? Well pat yourself on the back you know have an underbody light kit that you can turn off and runs on a seperate battery and if you place it right can still add a 5th cell for more power.
I hope this helps...I will be experimenting with other light sources in coming this week so be on the lookout for a new version.
Enjoy
