i use the 4aa charger that came with my boat.
you can also ad a 3rd battery to the controller but that takes longer to charge and will eat your batteries. but that will also double your range.
you need at least 3.4v to charge dual batts. my friend tested this on a scientific grade multimeter.
i like having a stand alone charger. but i dont have range issues either or i might change my mind.

I think www.questformadness.com has a mod that you do to the controller to charge multiple cells.

i cant see how that would work since fresh aa's dont give off enough voltage.

Micro man, thats a good mod controller on qfm, but it only works for 2.4V charges...and if freakanoid has 3.4....then it wont charge properly...right?

no you need 3.4v in the charger to charge two 1.2v cells.

my friend explained this to me mathematically yesteday but the math stuff ends up sounding like "blah blah waah wah" after a few mins but pretty much batteries or any electrical component has an internal resistance. you need (im pretty sure his meter said 3.4 it may have been 3.2) volts to overcome the internal resistance before it starts charging.
one advantage to this higher internal resistance is your car wont drain as quickly if you set it down for a few hours.

no just watch it. obviously a single cell will fill first and start getting hot first. if it does it should take off all its clothes.
heat = your battery is charged
heat = melted stuff or fire
