Will a Transmitter Crystal exchange really work?

Im finally getting the gumption to take my soldering iron to my zips. my question is whether or not it is a worthy endeavor to swap the crystal in the zip transmitter for another frequency and do the PCB swap to that frequency. The stealth mode PCB swap zip is one thing, but to have 4, 5 or 6 zips all with the same zip style controllers would be sweet.
i have read around and heard it works, yet still want to hear it directly told to me that this mod is truly that simple to do;

remove the obvious crystal from one and replace it into the other controller.

the idea of dozens of other capacitors, thingies or thingamabobs that also may need adjusting or swapping is not what i have in mind.
thanks for any assistance, thoughts or just plain good lucks!.

I asked this question months ago when I did my first swap. I got many people telling me that I would need to swap out this and that, so I said screw it and used the clone controllers. About a month ago I figured I would try the crystal swap, and you know what? It worked. I have a 35mhz and a 40mhz ZZ controller controlling my pcb swaped cars.

hey , thats great to hear. i like the idea of everyone having the same zip controller so we all have no advantage/disadvantage on the controller's ability to do whatever...including not hurt your thumb
would love to keep hearing other's positive feedback or tips (yes, saying loosen one crystal, loosen other crystal, replace crystal, groove out with the new controller will work as advice
