Albersons $9.99 Bit Clone Review
Name: Micro Wild Runner by Excite.
Purchased at: Albertsons (Grocery Store Chain), $9.99 (Regular price).
Package: Dome Style
Frequencies: 27 & 49 MHZ
Body Styles: Usual Tomy stuff...(Toyota bB, S2000 were in stock). Cheesy "Micro Wild Runner" stickers over painted graphics.
Wheels: Chrome Tomy style
Gears: Identical to Microsizers stock orange gears (although they are green).
Motor: Wired, more powerful than 2.2
Controller: Dome Style, Telescoping Antenna.
Power Source: 2 AA batteries not included. (In this case, I used my usual choice, Panasonic Alkalines from "Dollar Tree"....cost: $1)
Compatibility: Motor is wired. Will accept Tomy gears, heat sink, axles, bodies, rear tires. Front wheels seem to be a hair smaller than standard, making my Microsizer tires a very loose fit.
Performance: Fast! Easily outperforms stock Microsizer. Excellent accelleration, plenty of torque. Tight turns induce "doughnuts" with stock (hard rubber) tires. Range is about 15', not bad. Running time per charge is about average for a Bit.
Quality: Fair. Rear wheels have a slight "wobble". One front tire has a small chunk missing. This is the second one I picked up. Returned first one due to steering problem (would barely turn left).
Worth $9.99, (once you get one that works). Not a bad clone.
