Thumbs down Sponge Bob Sucks!!!

I bought the new Spongebob Squarepants bodies to bring to work (my supervisor is a nut for this show) and have some fun. Sadly the bodies are far too heavy to race, or even have any sort of fun with. I swear they must weigh 5-10 times more than the regular bodies!!! R$ should've put a little more thought into the material these things are made of (it's like a superdense rubberized plastic). I'm bringing mine back and stickin' to my blingin' Civics, Mustang, and FF bodies.

If your car is modded, you may enjoy these, but don't bother if you only run stock like me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't watch the show myself and never planned to buy the bodies. I looked at them in a local RS and they do look like they weigh a ton. The bus type body looks like it may have possibilities, but even after cutting out the windows and loosing weight in other ways, it would still be to heavy. RS needs to get on the ball here and release light weight bodies for the racing enthusiast. But, I wouldn't hold my breath. RS isn't known for doing the smart thing. Besides, I've heard rumors about fully proportional cars coming out soon. If they are more along the dimensions of true HO or 1/64 scale, these Zips will be gathering dust on the shelves. My only beef with Zips is that RS is in control of the market. I predict a whole herd of cars coming along to snatch the market away from the bleery eyed RS execs.

Well, I don't know if it is true, but I've heard Tomy (perhaps Tomica?) may be introducing a fully proportional car soon. If they are smart it will be 1/64 scale and not the cartoonish style of the Bits. If they do that, Zips are dead in my opinion. Heck, if they just lengthened the chassis on the Bits and made the wheels all the same size, even without proportional functioning, they'd take my buisiness. I think the only thing selling these Zips is the scale. Their popularity almost gaurantees someone will come along and challenge their hold on the market. And, alas as usual, RS will sleep right through it until Zips are no more.

Just looked again and it is a Tomy car, 1/60 scale, fully proportional. Will go for about 60 bucks. Release date of February 2003. Can't wait!

Well, I definitely agree that the Spongebob body kit is pretty heavy indeed...But if you're a tinkerer, then doing the dual-battery mod to compensate for the body weight would be cool (which is what I fully intend to do)

On the idea of Micro scale, fully propo cars...The Yokomo 'Puchi Maru' has been out for quite some time now (There's even a Puchi Maru forum here), it's 1/60th scale and fully propo.

At 1/3rd the cost ($19.99 vs. $60+) I don't think the ZipZaps have to worry too much about losing market.

I posted a link to the car in a new thread. Was off topic for a Sponge Bob topic.

Yep, the Spongebob body kit sucks! Not only are they heavy, they are really, really, really hard to snap on and off the car. Don't waste your money.

I own both. Bought them each for the kids. Their weight stinks and all of them will slow down your Zip. That being said, it was a blast driving the Thorneberries. My zips aren't really zips though. They're all mod'd with clone PCB's and dual batts in one. The Thornberries came with a monkey driving a quad and I had a blast driving him around the hardwood. If you have kids under 10, these are a must. If you're a kid at heart and want to own everything ZipZap like me, they're worth it. I love the Spongebob cartoon. I find the cartoon hilarious, but I'd buy the thorneberries kit first. Never seen the thorneberries cartoon, but the bodies were just more fun to drive. Gives you a completely different feel of Zips when you have these bodies on. Can't really explain it more then that.

Considering ZipZaps are the only truely big name in stores in america, I'm guessing zipzaps won't be even neared by a competitor for a long time.

60 is way too much for a mini r/c, unless its got some super performance features or mile long range or something really new and a big deal to the zipzaps scene.

Also, sure parents will buy them, I'm guessing the average 10 year old kid would rather drive a spongebob-mobile at quarter speed then a full speed porsche 911.
