Digi-LEGO?!
The latest LEGO catalog shows 2 cars and 3 robots that are RC via an IR controller, like a Digi Q!

Awesome, let us know how you like it! Did you see the IR programmable robots too? I love the RF RC car too, I think I'll finally pick one up now that the cost is so low, I want to combine one with my Mindstorms RCX!

Lego Review
#4589 Nitro Flash
Infared Lego RC Car.
I got my lego RC car!! Here's the Lowdown:
The car itself is a chassis with all teh electronics encased inside. You could probably take it apart to check out what's inside, but I didn't dare. My first observation was at work where my co-worker and threw some batteries into it and tried it out (no assembly neccessary except attaching the wheels). We noticed it has quite a bit of speed. No where near that of say a micro rs4, but probably close to that of a stock Mini-z.
I probably spent the most time building the car. Not that it was hard or anything, I just spent a lot of time building it, then rebuilding it, again and again. After finalizing the design of the body (a truck based on one of lego's designs) I spent some toime driving it around my familyroom.

Lego review (continued)
After a few minutes I noticed it's first flaw... weak front wheel connections. Every time I took a sharp turn one (or sometimes both) wheels fell off... It may be because I was driving on carpet, but I don't think that would change on another surface.
The car also has a very poor turning radius. I was three point turning all over the place. the controller is like the Bit Char-G controller. a button for forward, a button for back, a button for left and a button for right. no proportional anything!

lego review (continued)
however, that's not to say the car is all bad... The car is fun to race around (of course, on straight aways and with light turns) and it's epecially fun to jump (it came with two plastic ramps for making jumps off of).
Also it's pretty resilient. I was constantly flipping and crashing it, and (other than the tires falling off...) the car held up pretty well... Legos are pretty strong. Also if you do break it all you have to do is snap it back together again!
I am pretty satisfied with the set... now all I have to do is figure out how to keep the tires on...
Final note: RC Enthusiast... only get it for the collecting sake... Hop-ups are limited to the body of the car... although the body styles are limited only by your lego collection and your imagination.
Lego Enthusiast... it's a great addition to any collection. building it is fun... driving it is better!

Wow, thanks for the review, I'm surprised by how fast it is etc., I'll have to pic one of these up myself for sure now! Could you fit a length 3 axle through the front steering link and secure it from the other side with a "nut"? Or is there not enough room?

Hmmm... From the looks of it there may be enough room for a real small lego nut... I'll have to dig out one from my lego tub and give it a try.
I'll post a update as soon as I figure out if it works.

Too KEWL! What did you pay for that? If it is a decent amount (for a TOY), I'll see if I can get them at the local Toy Stores here. Should be fun AND, my son can play with it.
I'll also look at making that wheel mod. I wouldn't be able to stand it if the wheels fell off. Look at my Bits. They're collecting dust because I hate the range limitations and the motor problems. YUCK!
But these Lego Cars look so KEWL... and you can mod them to your hearts delight. Man, I've gotta go look for one!!!
(Money is burning a hole in my pocket.... ) HOT!

Hey tinyrc!!! You're a genius! It works pretty well!!
as you said a length 3 axle (about 1 inch for those of you not familiar with lego measurements) and a thin lego nut works wonders!
You may need to finesse the axle onto the rod, but a pair of needle nose pliers help. (pic 2)
also, remember to take a small screwdriver and push any excess length of axle away from the body of the car. you want as little axle to stick out past the nut as possible. (pic 4)
this fix is not perfect though. The wheel still falls off if you take a hard hit, but it no longer falls off on a simple turn. becareful if your wheel does fall off though I spent a couple minutes fooking for the little nut which managed to roll away after I crashed into a table leg...
For all you hardcore racers, you may want to stick a little CA glue on the end of the nut to keep it on... but be careful not to glue the axle into the steering hubs!
THUNDERER: For a toy (let alone a LEGO) it came at a reasonable $69.99 I figure it's cheaper than a TYCO and more than a RADIO SHACK... I got it at www.legoshop.com (the Lego online store)
