top speed with the stage 2 motors and properly lubed bearings is right around 20mph

Borrowed the formula from someone else, Not sure who so this ismt mine...
"How to figure out top speed"
"came up with a little speed formula here so that you guys can get the true speeds of your Xmods using only a tape measure and a stopwatch.
Here is the formula and explanation:
5280ft=1mi
An Xmod is 1/24th scale
Therefore an Xmod scale mile is 220ft
Use a tape measure and make 2 marks in the street/parking lot, one being at 0ft and the other at 22ft.
We're working off of 1/10th of a scale mile (22ft).
now measure the time (with the stopwatch) it takes (at top speed) to go from 0ft to 22ft (take a good running start)
Let's say it took 5 seconds
5 seconds divided by 22ft=4.4 feet per second
Divide that by one mile 5280ft
you get 1200 seconds
divide that by 60 to get MPH (in this case 20)
Hope it's not too complex but if you don't have a radar gun then this will solve all the bickering over how fast the thing is going and people guessing it's going 20mph when it's doing 17.
btw...if you're smart enough to figure out the formula then you can use it on any scale vehicle."
"
Hope this helps!

like mini-z's these things have the potential to go faster than you are resonabley able to control them. it all comes down to how much you are willing to spend.
if you have deep pockets, get nml's (proven reputation for mini-z's) hand wound motor or solomon, not sure what his trc name is, and his hand wound motors. he is also know for mini-z work as anyone in the mini-z realm has witnessed their fueding on the forums and now on ebay. (which is kind of rediculous, let your work speak for itself)

Yes, you can certainly go much faster than you can reasonably control them.
Here is a link to a video I shot of my XMOD on 2 lithium polymer cells. It is not very good video as I had to place the camera on the ground. It is on asphalt in the parking lot where I work. No body, stage 2 yellow motor, AWD. I simply taped the cells to the AAA battery holders - one on each side. I could not turn at speed or the car would flip several times. It would be much better on smooth concrete if I could keep the wheels from spinning under power. You get to see some flips and if yo ulisten, hear some behind the camera. I also managed to hit the camera which is not good.
The car is basically driving between the camera and a curb about 80 feet away. I would estimate the speed to be close to 20-25 mph which is pretty quick for something this small.
Again, not a very good video, but I hope it conveys the sense of speed. I'll get a better video form a higher perspective when I get a camera operator
Video
it is 4 meg so have a high speed connection or save as.

I've posted this before too. The simplified formula for converting feet/sec to miles/hour
Ft = Feet travelled
Sec = seconds to travel the above feet.
(15*Ft)/(22*Sec)
(15/22) is (3600SecInHour/5280FtInMiles) simplified.
Multiply by scale (for xmods that would be 28) to get scale speed if you are curious about that.
Do get a more detailed explaination do a search for "15/22" from Me and you should find that post.

Is a better video - shows it with generic white body on. AWD, stage II fastest motor (Yellow I think). Was running it around while my son ran his Skyline (stock 4 cell AAA). There is even an drag against the skyline but his cells were about half run down.
Cells are some I am testing and perhaps bringing to market.
In the meantime, Kokam 340 from www.b-p-p.com are the shiznit. Better cells than the ones I am running.
Remember you need a special lithium charger for these and they will be ruined if you discharge them below 2.5 - 3V per cell.
