Graupner Speed 280 6 V motor
5 x Sanyo N3-US AA 1000 mAh
2 mm MC gold connectors
Protech micro servo
13t HPI pinion
Schulze slim 10Ce controller
Graupner/JR R600 receiver without case
Graupner/JR XS-6 pistol grip radio
This little thing goes and accelerates like a rocket. Unbelievable. Quite some grip on carpet.

Some pics of cars on our second race of the season. I was second in 30 minute final, made 165 laps. Winner made 172 laps.

do you have a pix of the motor mount side? (where the pinion attaches to the motor?) i want to see how you modified the bulkhead to fit a 280.
How does the 280 @ 6V feel compared to a 180 @ 7.2V? what kinda motor is that?

From what I've read. The Graupner speed 280 motors don't produce enough RPM. With no load @ 6 volts, I think it only produces 14000 rpm. The TO modified coreless produces 30,000+. Even at 7.2 volts, I don't think the a speed 280 will come close.
If you looking for more top speed, try a 40t spur with a 15t pinion. You'll need very long straight away to wind it out though.

There are three different 280 closed endbell motors from Graupner. I have the normal one, then there is sport and the hottest one is race.
I am more than satisfied with normal 280 6V motor. The acceleration is simply unbelievable on carpet. I also tought this is a lazy motor, but heck with 5 N3US AA cells it is a "screamer" on small courses. Torque is the key. I drove with 54% epa th. adjustment on the race and it was still too much for me. Runtime over 1 hour of one heck of a driving.
The installation was pretty simple. If you look closely on the first photo you can see washers peaking out under the bulkheads. I had to add 4 of them, 1 under each screw hole. These are washers for M2 screws. On the bulkhead I just drilled and filled two more holes, adjusted the pinion to the spur and that's it! Took me about 15 minutes. The car is quite silent. I like it very much!
