i had my sis's boyfreind help me pull it off. it does NOT want to come off!! i finally got it though! i decided i did not want the moter any more so i put it in a vice(really tight(it even brock the magnets!)) and i pried like crazy!! the shaft came out of the motor so we bent the shaft, put it back in the vice and took two screw drivers on both sides and then it finally came off(took about 15 min.)

I haven't found any method that works well without using a pinion puller. The problem with not using one is that usually the motor ends up destroyed, and the teeth of the pinion usually get damaged as well. One way you can gain some pinion clearance for the puller is to use a pair of large diagnal pliers, and put the gear into them like you are going to cut the motor shaft off just below it. Squeeze the pliers, and you will move the pinion about 1/16th of an inch. Enough to get the puller in, and not kill the motor.

Quick science lesson here- the pinion is brass, the shaft is steel. Brass expands faster with heat. Use your soldering iron or a micro torch to evenly heat up the brass pinion and you can pry it off. Be careful when you do it, because it may fly across the room when it lets go, and it will still be hot.
To put the pinion back on, use a c-clamp. Heat will also help.

/\ what he did works well, and it doesn't destroy your motor as much.
I think the pinion is glued on, but when you heat it up it slips right off, with the help of some pliers.

I tried heating it up with a grille lighter, and it didn't help at all...

In San Antonio, finding anything related to slot cars seems to be very difficult...
I like that heat method. Tried it myself, but stopped due to the danger . I never thought of heating it with a soldering iron though...

lol this is funny
i really wanted to get the pinion off so i put the xmod motor in my vice and i took a hammer and screw driverand i hit the screwdriver and i knocked the pinion along witth the bar its attached to. i got the SB motor apart and everything but now i gotta get the darn pinion off to use it! any ideas?i thought maybe i could cut the very top of the silver rod and then drill it out of the pinion.
Lol i got bored and put the silver rod in my vice and beat the pinion off with a screwdriver and hammer.
