i was also wondering about this. i did a layman's cell mod to one of my clones and it is crazy fast, but i think i could get more runtime if i peak charge the batteries. i was wondering if you could use a wire to connect the charge leads of a charging base to the spots where a AA or AAA battery go on a cheap-o AA/AAA charger. has anyone tried this?

i have one of those rayovac nicd/nimh chargers for AA/AAA/9V batts. so i made a spacer so the 1/3AAA batt sits snug. this works fine and i get plenty of runtime, but the pain is the fact that i have to open up the car to get the batt out and charge, im gonna break a wire sooner or later.
i tried to connect the charge base to the leads and it wont detect the batt for some reason or other.
i want to buy a peak charger that i can just connect the charge base to and slap the car onto the base. and so far, this pirahna charger is the cheapest one i found that will charge single cell.
ive read that peeps are doing this with other types of peak chargers, most of which are in the ~$100+ range.

too bad it only has a minimum charge capacity of 50mah the button cells are 40mah. what if i selected 2 or 3 cells (however many are in the car) and set it to 50mah? would it automatically shut off?

Yes. You can just take the wires running from a charging base, and run them to the bare wire connectors. No problem..

Well, if this picture helps...

This is my Peak Charger (Dymond Super Turbo Charger) sitting on top of my Power Supply, connected to a Bit Char-G charge bay that I modded from a controller.

Notice how I wire from the charge bay to the Peak Charger.

like i said you should wire a charger base up so you dont have to hold the wires on the car hoping they are touching and charging it

What I LOVE about my setup is that I've got a charge bay for my Bits, Zips, Maru, Epoch and using battery holders I can charge NiMH and Nicads too.

As far as charge rate goes, if i'm in a rush I charge at 1amp (1,000mA)...But if I want a more proper charge, 800mA seems about right (this is for ALL the different types of Bit batts, whether the stock 50mAH Nicads or the 160mAH NiMH)
