ARGHHH! HELP with SOLDERING!

Hey guys,

I need help soldering!!! I'm such a noob at this stuff. All of my bits are all motor and no turbo(dual cell), so I need help!!

When soldering all that happens is these metal bubbles keep forming but not over the wire I want to connect the battery too. Here are some pics of my hap-hazard attempt...

Here I am placing the solder over the wire and the battery and trying to melt the solder with the iron.

And here's the bubbles...

Can someone give me tips on how to solder? Should I place the wire over the solder and try and melt the solder by touching the wire(not the solder) with the iron?
I really don't know anything about electronics unless it involves programing or computers!

Thanks in advance!

the way i find is the easyest but is mostly a matter of preferance is that i take my gun and hold the wire onto the batt (you may need to use something to hold the batt upright like vicegrips) then i feed solder onto the connection from the side and usually if the temp is right it sticks to the batt and hangs onto the wire. the reason the it's going into bubbles and not sticking to the batt is because the surface of the batt is not hot enough.

I also need some help in this area. When I am soldering, and after I solder a wire one, and then lift the iron off the solder, the solder travels with the iron until a certain point, and the solder points up. This really pisses me off alot, how do I prevent this?

Ugggggg, I hate that sooooooooooooooo much. The way I solder wires on is buy melting the solder onto the battery. Then melt the solder, and stick the wire in, but then comes the problem of "THE POINT". It is the evil point!

well i have that problem sometimes also damn evil point. i guess the way i fix this is by melting the tip once it is dry and sorta going down ( then u get a dairy queen icecream tip instead). also u could just cut the tip with a pair of wire cutters or just sand it wit da dremel. those ideas are untested by me thus far. the way u solder is also a good way that i used to solder and still do sometimes (it just depends on the mood i'm in or something)

The way my bro says to solder is to get the thing you want to solder on hot enough so when you put the solder on, it naturally melts on. With batteries, I'm not so sure about that.

I sometimes try making the "EVIL POINT" go to the side, but then it sticks out too far to the side.

That is what I usually do, but sometimes it doesn't work. Man, I never knew that someone would have the same problem as me!

I just read through this thread and no one mentioned the best solution of all:
FLUX
In case you don't know what it is, this thing cleans away the surface of any metal and does something that makes the metal stick to the solder and the other metal(wire and batt.). This paste works for anything and the connections are really, REALLY strong. I reccommend this to anyone who solders at all.

well ya flux works great too ummm i probably didn't mention flux because most solder has a rosin core which does the same thing as flux just at the exact same time you're putting the solder in. as u may be able to see in the pic where it isn't heated enough there is yellowish stuff on the batt that my friend is the rosin core. if your solder doesn't say rosin core on it then buy some flux to help u.
