I’ve had similar experiences with various motors. I recently bought two 3.8 Perfection motors. One is speedy and has a decent amount of torque. It’s an awesome motor. The other has very little torque. It feels like a 3.2 in my MicroSizer Pro, but merely like a 23.5 in my Precious or Panther. I’m guessing that my Panther and Precious both require more “power” to make the gears turn.
I also have three Tomy 2.2 motors. All of them display different characteristics. To top it off, I get better speed and torque out of the 23.5 motor in my Zip Zap booster set, than with the 28 motor from the same set.
I’m starting to think that motor specifications, at this size, mean very little. I wonder if the manufacturers just build a pile of motors, individually test them under zero load for rotation speed, and throw them into the corresponding box for their generated measurement. They may get ten 3.8 motors out of the hundred they made, twenty 3.4s, thirty 2.6s, and forty 2.2s.
The real way to test a motor is under load, and I don’t think that happens. Then again, I don’t expect much testing on a motor that costs less than 10 bucks.
