If your tires spin independently from each other, then when you accelerate, only the tire on the side with the gear is putting the torque to the road, and that will make the car veer to the right. Try pressing the wheels onto the axle harder. All my Tomy axles developed this problem within an hour of running them, but pressing the wheels on harder solved it.
No, the wheels don't bind on the chassis.
