Hmm, how about piece of a spring?
I like the match stick idea, and came up with a similar plan, involving a piece of spring wire. I stretched out an old tape player spring, and cut and looped one end around a small screw, which just fits the holes under the motor. The other end of the spring is bent so that it just lightly holds the axle in place.
The hardest part is bending the spring to give just the right amount of contact, without slowing axle down too much. I have my spring directed more towards the geared side of the axle. (since that was the end that was vibrating the most)
