Yes that is correct I have a 4 channel controller that I modified with a new extendable antenna. The antenna that I used is like 39" long when fully extended (it looks cool like an antenna for a big R/C Car) I swiped the antenna from a pair of TV antenna bunny ears that I got at Walmart for 9 bucks and I got Two antennas the other on is on one of my standard controllers it improved reception alot on that controller about 25-30 feet) but not as good as my 4 channel.
Note: My 40-50 feet of range in in a nice open area ( my basement). Upstairs with the TV on cordless phones and othe interferance the range goes down to about 30 feet but I think that is still pretty good. Sofar this has been my favorite mod and the most useful. I can drive until I can barely see the car (very cooool)
