I think a gunmetal color on the wheels would set off that candy apple color well. Here's a Mini Z body I just done in candy blue over silver with gunmetal alloy wheels. All the paint used was Tamiya sprays, some of there new ones like the pearl clearcoat. That pearl clear has to be seen in person to be believed.

Just a note on using candy or transparent colors, with the silver base apply one or two light coats of clear (I used standard clear here) on it to seal it. Then you can use the transparent colors. If you don't use the clear coats on the silver the transparent color will look lumpy.
