-In general i wouldn't recommend sticking 7-8 cells to your xmod because the fets might not burn with a low current draw motor but the board might fry because of the high voltage...my xmod board didn't fry enough to stop operation but i guess it depends on your luck of the quality of the board you get.
-To answer your question It really depends on the motor...a stage 1 doesn't draw much current so 7-8 cells would probably run good...a stage 2 would run 6 cells safely...with four cells i run a 40T armature with spinbrush mags and bb can on stock fets
-the stock fets can handle somewhere in the vicinity of 2.5-3 amps i think...with ohms law you can find out how much current a motor draws if you have the resitance and voltage...so if you have a custom motor be careful...i wouldn't run a hybrid motor on 6 cells for more than 5 minutes and wouldn't even run it with 7-8 cells just to be safe.
