motor mount modification

Has anyone modified their motor mount to allow certain motors to use larger pinions? I had the problem with a TO Core Modified and now with a TO Elite Modified that the bushing on the outdrive is so large that it prevents the motor from being positioned far enough away from the axle to let you use a pinion larger than 10T. My plan is to use my dremel and a tungsten carbide cutter (drill bit shape) to widen the center hole to allow the motor to be positioned further from the axle. Since its not a large bit, hopefully I can enlarge it just enough for my needs.

Has anyone tried this? I want to ask before I possibly destroy a $15 motor mount :P
