Actualy according to
this post the stage 2 motor can spin faster and can make more torque than the stage 1. The only advantage is that the stage 1 draws fewer amps.

These quick disconects are the ones I got. There are better ones, like Deans connectors, but you have to get them online...I think.
For Mini-Z wheels you'll need to modify them to work. BC has a tutorial located
here that describes how he modded some wheels he got at his LHS to work with his XMod.
