Yeah, I thought of doing the same thing, or something similar. The reason I didn't was because I later found out the internal resistance of a 1/3AAA battery is almost 2X that of a AAA battery. This means you would have 7.2V to start with and then when you hit the throttle for WOT the battery resistance would significantly lower the voltage output to the motor (down to like 5V or so). This is the big battery trade-off, more no-load voltage is not the right answer always. The best thing to get would the the KAN-AAA ultra low internal resistance batteries. Using a 4 cell KAN set-up you might be able to beat guys with 6 cell IC3 set-ups. The only problem is that I can't find anyone here in the US who sells them. Or, there is always lithium-ion battery packs (too expensive and too dangerous for me to mess with).
